Under his leadership, the institution transitioned from a visual arts museum to an interdisciplinary center with an expanded mission, encompassing culture and policy programming aimed at reshaping narratives and fostering new opportunities for Africa and the Diaspora.

Among Dr. Iweala’s notable achievements is the establishment of the “Future Africa Forum,” which pioneered the center’s interdisciplinary approach to policy programming. This flagship forum gathers heads of state, senior political officials, industry leaders, philanthropists, and cultural luminaries for discussions during the United Nations General Assembly.

Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. Iweala expressed pride in the collective accomplishments of The Africa Center, emphasizing the importance of the institution’s role in showcasing African culture and engaging with the global African Diaspora. The Center, housed in the Aliko Dangote Hall, has become a vibrant cultural hub in Harlem since its inception in 2019, hosting over 280 programs spanning culture, policy, and business related to contemporary African life. These programs have attracted more than 177,000 visitors, offering a diverse array of exhibitions, performances, film screenings, author talks, and policy forums.
