Pearl Lam Galleries and Alimi Adewale’s announce their inaugural participation at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair 2024 in London. This will be taking place from the 10th until the 13th of October 2024. This year Pearl Lam will be showing a solo exhibition of new works by Adewale titled ‘Terra Mater.’ This exhibition presents 12 new tapestry works and 10 new sculptures. ‘Terra Mater’ explores the relationship between humanity and nature while highlighting Earth as a nurturing force.
Adewale combines painting, sculpture and installation to explore urban issues such as life in the city. The exhibition uses raw expressive paintings and sculptural forms to invite viewers to reflect on their place within the natural world. This includes the emotional landscapes that shape their understanding of self. The dynamic lively landscapes mirror humanity’s shifting relationship with nature. The sculptures are abstract manifestations of the themes explored in the portraits and landscapes within the exhibition. This further explores the capturing of the tactile and visceral qualities of earth itself. This is while echoing the organic forms found in nature and connecting to themes of identity, transformation and interconnectedness.
According to Pearl Lam, founder of Pearl Lam Galleries, the gallery looks forward to showcasing Adewale’s work with a global audience. When the gallery first announced the representation of Adewale, they invited him to be a globally represented artist. Pearl Lam is looking forward to showcasing Adewale’s compelling works in London ahead of his solo exhibition at their Shanghai gallery in 2025.
