Nomadic Art Gallery in Partnership with Art Digging hosts “Refuge in Community”, An Off-ish Group Exhibition for Lagos Biennial

LAGOS, NIGERIA – From February 8 through February 29, 2024, Nomadic Art Gallery (NAG) in Victoria Island will host the intriguing exhibition: Refuge in Community – including works by contemporary African artists; Ekene Ngige, Tochukwu Orazulike, Ife Ofulue, Josh Egesi and Olalekan Adeyemi.

The ‘Refuge in Community’ exhibition explores the intricacies of individuality and community, revealing the fundamental elements of a society thriving in harmony. Viewers are invited to contemplate the beauty found within diversity and the strength derived from shared experiences.

Driving the success of Nomadic Art Gallery (NAG) are Danish entrepreneur Charlotte Obidairo and Gallery Director Mercy Imiegha. Their shared passion for contemporary African art fuels the unconventional gallery concept, described by Obidairo as representing the “Afrobeat of art,”.

It’s part of our DNA as Nigerians”Mercy Imiegha expresses confidence in the imminent breakthrough of African artists, stating, “For seven years, we have been criss-crossing the continent, exhibiting and learning about the intricacies and diversity of African art. Since 2016, Nomadic Art Gallery has been on a mission to give African art and artists a strong voice and visibility both on the continent and in the diaspora. NAG has collaborated with the global furniture brand BoConcept Africa, showcasing African art alongside Scandinavian designs. “Art meets Design” exhibitions have taken place in Abidjan, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi, featuring prominent artists like Yagazie Emezie, Peju Alatise, Ibn Cheikh Sallah Diebkilé, Baba Tjeko, and others.
