Gasworks London presents “throwers,” a landmark exhibition marking the UK solo debut of Johannesburg-based artist, Nolan Oswald Dennis. From April 24 to June 22, 2025, in Gasworks London at 155 Vauxhall Street, this visionary showcase will challenge our perceptions, inviting us to reexamine our place within the world. Through large-scale murals, intricate diagrams, and 3D-printed installations, Dennis examines the complex relationships between our social, political, and cosmic landscapes. The exhibition’s title, “throwers,” refers to objects or entities that disrupt our understanding of the world, prompting us to reconsider the structures that shape our reality.

Nolan Oswald Dennis’ “throwers” is a groundbreaking exhibition that culminates his ongoing research into the intersections of geology, cosmology, and politics. This immersive experience converges art, science, and philosophy, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate beauty and complexity of the African diasporic experience.

By challenging the colonial conception of a singular, knowable “world,” Dennis proposes new models for envisioning a Black planet. This visionary exhibition is a call to rethink our assumptions about the universe and our place within it, sparking a conversation about the world we live in and the worlds we imagine.

At the exhibition’s core lies a new iteration of “recurse 4 a late planet” (2024), a monumental wall mural that masterfully interweaves cosmological, geological, and techno-political insights. This sweeping work crafts a captivating social history of stones, drawing from a vast archive of near-earth-asteroids and their celestial trajectories. With heightened attention to “potentially-hazardous-objects” that periodically imperil our planet, Dennis’ mural presents a poignant reflection on our existence within the cosmos.

Born in Lusaka, Zambia, in 1988, Nolan Oswald Dennis is a multidisciplinary artist whose unique perspective examines the intricate relationships between our social, political, and cosmic landscapes, drawing inspiration from his experiences living and working in Johannesburg.

Gasworks, a renowned non-profit arts organisation in South London, provides the ideal platform for Dennis’ exhibition, showcasing his innovative and thought-provoking work to a diverse audience.

Since its founding in 1994, Gasworks has established itself as a hub for fostering innovative artistic talent, supporting over 600 artists from more than 80 countries worldwide. Through a rich program of exhibitions, residencies, and participation initiatives, Gasworks offers a dynamic platform for artists to experiment, develop, and showcase their creative vision. With a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Gasworks is the perfect partner for Dennis’ exhibition.

With the arrival of “throwers” at Gasworks London on the horizon, you are invited to embark on a journey of discovery and reflection. In addition, you can be among the first to experience this groundbreaking exhibition during the preview on Wednesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
