Nike Art Gallery will see the 2023 Hamptons Fine Art Fair

Hamptons Fine Art Fair, the international fine art fair from the producers of ShowHamptons, has announced their 2023 exhibitor list with Nike Art Gallery making it.

Hamptons Fine Art Fair, the international fine art fair will showcase 10,000 artworks by 130 national and international galleries. Back by popular demand, the highly anticipated fourth annual Hamptons Fine Art Fair will be showcased at the spectacular custom built 70,000 sq. ft. pavilion complex on 17-acres at Southampton Fairgrounds from July 13-16, 2023.

Over $150 million in important post-war and contemporary art will be available for immediate acquisition within the Pollock, de Kooning, and Luxury Pavilions, with well over 800 revered artists on display, with a focus on emerging artists, blue-chip masters and investment and elegant decorative as well as many sculptural masterpieces. The Opening Night Benefit and Preview is expected to attract over 3,500 influential guests with overall attendance expected to increase to 12,000 over the course of the weekend.

This is perhaps the deepest and widest selection of significant art ever offered in the Hamptons.”

Nike Art Gallery, the US-based branch in Huntington, NY, of the Nike Art Gallery brand owned by Chief Mrs. Nike Davies-Okundaye, an accomplished professional artist, painter, textile artist, weaver, embroidery, and an award winner at many national and international art shows will take part this year. Since its opening, the gallery has been one of the most extensive galleries in West Africa and boasts a collection of different artworks expressing Nigeria and Africa’s diversity and rich cultural heritage.

Alongside several extraordinary galleries, Nike Art gallery will present the following artists; Nike Okundaye, Tola Wewe, Bolaji Ogunwo, Nelson Okoh, Akeem Adeleke and Sam Ebohon.

Tola Wewe, born in Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria in 1959, trained and graduated with a degree in Fine Art from University of Ife in 1983. His style draws from the Ona symbols of the Yoruba and his themes project traditional lore and myths of his native Yoruba culture. His work, defiant of classification, ‘silently grows on viewers, blending with their moods, simultaneously taking their minds to strange and familiar colourful places full of false nostalgia. Often the attraction is mutual and instant: for those who can consume the spectacular banquet of colours, Wewe cooks up spicy visual rhythms, sometimes playful, sometimes serious, sometimes dense, sometimes scattered, carefully orchestrated, although seemingly extravagant.’ (Moyo Okediji, University of Colorado).

Sam Ebohon was born on November 30, 1970, in Lagos to Edo-Benin parents. His most identifiable works feature large criss-crossing strokes that abstract the subject matter. Ebohon’s vibrant brushstrokes bear a particular textual flourish often found in artworks by other graduates of the Yaba School.The kinetic brushwork Ebohon uses creates a blurry effect that acts to both veils and reveal beauty and elegance. Simultaneously, these painterly explorations definitively point toward a contemporary African concept of the sublime. Compact straight dashes combine with short strokes to dissolve into naturalistic forms seeking to define human existence within various thematic and social contexts. By creating a balance between technique and visual drama, Ebohon’s artworks evoke playful visual effects through their use of seemingly out-of-focus imagery. As if seen through a glass prism, the images expand into reflections of motion.

Adeleke Akeem was born in1978 in Lagos State, Nigeria.He had a natural ability for art right from his childhood. He graduated in 2004 from Federal College of Education in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he studied Fine and Applied Art (Double Major). Adeleke Akeem works with several mediums but his flair goes for Oil and Acrylic colours. Most of his works found its greatest impression when the Artist is expressing himself on cityscape, landscape and figures. He has taken part in several exhibitions locally.

Bolaji Ogunwo is a renowned artist and educator. He received his B.A in Painting from the University of Benin Edo state in 2000, his Master’s degree in Painting from the University of Lagos in 2006, and his Ph.D in Painting from Delta State University, Abraka in 2020. With over two decades of studio practice, Bolaji has showcased his art in over 50 local and international exhibitions, including 5 solo exhibitions. His work has been collected by notable art enthusiasts and can be found in collections around the world. He currently serves as a painting Lecturer at the Department of Creative arts, University of Lagos, Nigeria.
