January 24th – February 10, 2024
Mitochondria Gallery is pleased to present our first show of 2024 “In Search of Dreams,” a group exhibition. This exhibition features new sculptures and paintings from emerging contemporary visual artists from East to West Africa. In this exhibition we embark on a visual and emotional journey that delves into the intricate tapestry of pursuing one’s goals and the transitional phases encountered on the path to fulfillment. This exhibition unfolds as a poignant exploration of the human spirit, navigating the delicate dance between aspiration and attainment.
“In Search of Dreams” showcases a diverse array of artistic expressions, encompassing landscape paintings, portraiture paintings, and sculptures. The artists utilize various mediums, including oil and acrylic paints, charcoal, and conte crayons, skillfully crafting captivating compositions on both canvas and bonded stone surfaces. Life, with its myriad complexities, presents a continuous dance between aspiration and realization. The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the nuanced moments during this journey – the contemplative pauses, the uncertain pathways, and the transformative periods that shape us.
“In Search of Dreams,” features new work from Izere Antoine, Ismael Kwizera, Chidimma Nwafor, Odeyemi Oluwaseun, Brian Kansiime Lister, Junior Mudahunga and Ejiro Fenegal. In this exhibition, the art becomes a mirror reflecting the shared human endeavor to transform aspirations into reality, and in doing so, discover the profound beauty that lies within the pursuit itself.
“In Search of Dreams” is on view from January 24th to February 10th, 2024. The opening reception in Houston, TX is on Wednesday, 7:00pm to 9:00pm on the 24th of January.
