The Kòbọmọjẹ́ Artist Residency has announced Ana Hupe and Ganiu Ismail as the recipients of its 2024 open call.

The selection committee chose these talented artists from a competitive pool of applicants, awarding them a four-week residency to immerse themselves in an environment that fosters artistic innovation and cultural exchange.

The selection jury, comprised of esteemed figures Professor Peju Layiwola and Olu Amoda. They were profoundly impressed by the dynamic energy, profound passion, and exceptional creativity displayed by each applicant. Their decision underscores the residency’s commitment to nurturing groundbreaking artistic talents.

Since its inception, the Kòbọmọjẹ́ Artist Residency has served as a crucible for some of Nigeria’s most distinguished artists. Alumni include renowned names such as Ben Osaghae, Duke Asidere, Nengi Omuku, Uthman Wahaab, and Ugochukwu Emebiriodo, all of whom have utilized their residency period to push the boundaries of their artistic endeavors, producing work that continues to resonate within the art community.

This thematic residency honors Suliat Adedeji (1944–1996), a Nigerian activist, business magnate, and political figure. From the late 1970s until her death, Adedeji was a political powerhouse advocating for youth empowerment and grassroots engagement. Situated in her historic residence, Kòbọmọjẹ́ Court, the residency offers artists inspiration from her impactful life.
