Johannesburg Unveils South Africa’s First Museum of Illusions

Johannesburg joins cities such as as Cairo, Chicago, Dallas, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, Milan and New York, with the opening of South Africa’s first Museum of Illusions located in Rosebank. Comprising of over 60 exhibits, illusions, and immersive experiences, the concept first launched in Zagreb, Croatia in 2015 and has become a global phenomenon with over 12 million people having visited the museums to date.

Each of these museums takes visitors on a memorable sensory journey through mind bending installations that leverage art, science, maths and psychology in a unique way. At the Museum of Illusions Johannesburg, visitors are encouraged to interact and experiment with the exhibits that use optical illusions, visual tricks, and hands-on interactive displays to create a playful environment, and capture their memories in photos and videos forever.

The museum aims to provide visitors with a mix of fun, interactive, and educational experiences that challenge their perceptions, spark creativity, and leave them amazed. The Museum of Illusions is a part of the largest private chain of such museums globally, with over 50 museums in operation around the world. More cities where these museums can be found are Dubai, New York, Paris, Milan, and Shanghai.

Featuring a wide range of exhibits that make use of optical illusions, visual tricks, and interactive displays, the Museum of Illusions creates a playful environment where things are never quite as they appear to be. The museum in Johannesburg is open daily, including Sundays and public holidays.
