Highlighting Five African Curators Who Are Making an Impact in The Industry

African art has a rich and diverse history, and over the years, many curators have played an important role in promoting and preserving African culture through their exhibitions and initiatives.

Here are five of the most inspiring African curators:

OKWUI ENWEZOR

Okwui Enwezor was a Nigerian curator, critic, and art historian who was known for his groundbreaking exhibitions that brought African and African-diaspora art to a global audience. He was the first African to curate the Venice Biennale, he also curated the Documenta 11 exhibition in Kassel, Germany, which was one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in the world. Enwezor’s exhibitions and writings challenged dominant narratives about contemporary art and helped to expand the cultural dialogue about the place of African art in the world.
