The International ARC Alliance Française is inviting women or women-identifying artists of any African nationality working and living outside of Botswana to apply for the 2024 residency.

The goal of this residence is to promote artist mobility and to expand their network. It is an opportunity for the local artist community in Botswana to meet and connect with an international resident, share knowledge and resources, and establish future links.

The residency is open to a woman or woman-identifying person of African nationality. The applicant must be at least 21 years old and must live outside of Botswana at the time of applying.

The recipient will benefit from:

  • A two-month artistic residency in Gaborone from July 1 to August 31, 2024.
  • Gaborone flat lodging in a furnished living space (bedroom, shower, kitchen, wifi).
  • A studio office in Gaborone.
  • A special artistic and professional accompaniment: access to the two partners’ networks and library resources.
  • Regular studio visits with local artists in Gaborone.
  • Trips to locations and artistic communities outside of Gaborone (for example, the Kuru Art Project, D’kar, and Ghanzi). This will be adapted to the recipient’s artistic project’s needs and relevance.

Amongst others, the program will provide:

  • International transportation to and from Gaborone (excluding VISA and travel insurance expenses).
  • A grant for living expenses.
  • A production grant for producing work.
  • Four in-person workshops for the local community in Gaborone, to be defined by the recipient.

Submitted portfolios and residency projects will be considered based on the quality of the work, its artistic coherence, the necessity of realizing it in Gaborone, and how the artist’s time in Gaborone will benefit the Botswana artistic community.

The residency will close on the 21st of  January, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified of their success from mid to late February 2024.
