A major theme in Lulama’s work is space, architecture and spirituality. Her art depicts the interplay of science in the African context and the way they align with one another. Lulama tells the story of the pre colonial African experience through the use of contemporary art by making use of techniques like scraping, deep pigment and smearing. The artists also uses 2D acrylic paintings to convey the simplicity of the native eye while exploring the human condition in imaginative ways. Her art which is rooted in mythology and spirituality from a contemporary South African perspective intersects between Neo-expressionism and contemporary African art.
