New York City’s premier art fair, The Armory Show, is gearing up for its fourth edition, scheduled to take place from the 6th until the 8th of September at the Javits Center. From its inception, The Armory Show’s commitment has been presenting a global view of contemporary art. This year’s edition continues to uphold that commitment with 235 leading galleries from around the world participating and representing 35 countries. Among the impressive lineup of exhibitors are in Lagos, WHATIFTHEWORLD and SMAC Gallery in Cape Town are making the list as galleries with a presence from the African continent.

The Armory Show Fair has different sections in which galleries can exhibit their work. These are Galleries, Solo, Focus, Platform and Not-For-Profit. Kó will be exhibiting at the Presents section of the fair, which highlights emerging galleries that are no more than ten years old, showcasing recent work in solo and dual artist presentations.

The South African galleries, SMAC and WHATIFTHEWORLD, will exhibit at the Solo and Focus sections of the fair respectively. The Solo section is dedicated to intimate presentations of work by a single emerging, established or historic artist working in the 20th or 21st century. The Focus section on the other hand re-engages the experimental spirit and avant-garde histories of the fair’s founding. These galleries are expected to present a carefully curated selection of works that capture the essence of Africa’s viable art scene. Visitors can anticipate encountering a range of mediums, all showing unique perspectives on contemporary African experiences and aesthetics.
