The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art (YSMA) has marked a significant transition in its governance with the appointment of Mr. Adedotun Sulaiman as Chairman of its Advisory Board. Sulaiman, a veteran business leader and avid art collector, officially assumed the role on January 20, 2025, succeeding Kola Aina, the museum’s inaugural chairman.

During his tenure, Aina spearheaded the museum’s rise to prominence, highlighted by its receipt of the Museum Opening of the Year 2020 award from Apollo Magazine, a leading global art publication. Reflecting on his leadership, Aina expressed pride in the institution’s accomplishments and confidence in Sulaiman’s stewardship.
“It has been an honor to serve as the pioneer chairman of the YSMA Advisory Board,” Aina stated. “The milestones we achieved are a testament to the collective dedication of the board and museum team. I am confident that under Adedotun Sulaiman’s guidance, the museum will continue to thrive and innovate.”
Sulaiman, whose career spans multiple sectors including corporate governance and philanthropy, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has contributed to several prominent organizations, including Cadbury Nigeria Plc and ABSA Group, where he now serves as board chairman.
The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art is a crucial institution in preserving and celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage,” Sulaiman remarked during his inaugural address. “I am honored to take on this role and look forward to contributing to its ongoing legacy of excellence.”
Museum Director Jess Castellote acknowledged the transition and underscored the significance of Aina’s leadership. “Kola Aina’s vision and commitment have set a strong foundation for the YSMA,” Castellote commented. “We welcome Adedotun Sulaiman with enthusiasm, recognizing the profound impact his leadership can have on the museum’s future.”

The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, located at Pan-Atlantic University, has established itself as a leading institution for the preservation and exhibition of Nigerian art. Its extensive collection spans centuries, offering a nuanced lens into the nation’s artistic and cultural evolution.
With Sulaiman now at the helm, the YSMA embarks on a new chapter, poised to further its role as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s cultural and artistic identity.
