FNB Art Joburg will return to the Sandton Convention Centre for its 17th edition from September 6-8, 2024. This premier event, a cornerstone in Africa’s contemporary art and culture calendar, continues to foster a sustainable ecosystem for African art both on the continent and in the diaspora.
FNB Art Joburg remains integral to nurturing and sustaining a commercial cultural ecosystem, focusing on practitioners based in Africa and the diaspora. This year, the fair introduces a new section called GIF (Gallery Image Format), allowing galleries to spotlight photographers. This space is dedicated to showcasing image makers and has the potential to include all lens-based media, supporting both static as well as animated images.
“We are reimagining FNB Art Joburg. This year’s fair will offer attendees and exhibitors the best contemporary African art and culture. We aim to create a culture of appreciation and ownership that empowers creative talent in South Africa and across the African continent. As FNB, we are committed to supporting the creative economy and ensuring contemporary African art remains a consistent player in the global art landscape. We are immensely proud of our long-standing sponsorship of FNB Art Joburg, now in its 17th year.”
Faye Mfikwe, FNB Chief Marketing Officer emphasizes
The fair adopts a hybrid approach, merging curatorial and also commercial interventions across six specialized sections: Gallery HUB, gallery LAB, MAX, GIF, ETC, AUX, and ORG. These sections will feature renowned galleries, emerging artists, and institutions from across the continent.
To kick off Open City 2024, The BMW Art Generation, supported by FNB, will take place on August 31. This event will feature a conference, exhibitions, performance art, live music, food, coffee, as well as wine stalls.
FNB Art Joburg’s Managing Director, Mandla Sibeko, also stated, “FNB Art Joburg prides itself on its year-long support of various facets in the ecosystem.
