‘From Mali, With Love”: A Sonnet of Affection Through Art at Retro Africa Gallery

Retro Africa Gallery presents “From Mali, With Love,” a group exhibition showcasing the work of three Malian contemporary artists: Abdoulaye Konaté, Amadou Sanogo, and Abdou Ouologuem. The exhibition, curated by Dolly Kola-Balogun, opens on May 12th, 2023.

Dolly Kola-Balogun‘s deep love for Mali is the inspiration behind this exhibition. Having spent her formative years in the country, she draws upon her experiences and curatorial research to create a lyrical journey that highlights the essence of Africa’s pursuit of excellence.

Abdoulaye Konaté’s work is a visual expression of his love for Mali and its culture.His work features large-scale textile installations that incorporate traditional Malian fabrics. Konaté’s works often convey political and social commentary, with a particular focus on human rights and environmental issues. Through his use of bright colors and bold designs, Konaté creates striking and powerful installations that leave a lasting impression on viewers.

Amadou Sanogo is a multimedia artist whose work explores the intersection between traditional Malian culture and modernity. Born in Kita, Sanogo’s work incorporates a range of mediums, including painting, photography, and sculpture. His work often deals with issues related to identity and the impact of globalization on African culture. Sanogo’s bold and colorful paintings are a celebration of Mali’s rich cultural heritage as its continues to inspire the modern world.

Abdou Ouologuem’s work is a reflection of his fascination with Malian history and its legends. Born in Gao, Ouologuem’s art is influenced by the ancient kingdoms of Mali, such as the Songhai Empire. His work often takes the form of intricate drawings and paintings that depict Malian history and folklore. Ouologuem’s art is a celebration of Mali’s rich past and its enduring cultural heritage.
